About Kate Mortimer
Heartfelt’s professionally trained celebrant.
I was born and brought up in Bristol and love living and working here. After many years of working as an NHS and independent therapist, I trained as a celebrant, something I had wanted to do for several years. My reasons for doing this were that it seemed a wonderful and privileged thing to be able to use my communication, empathic, organisational, presentation and writing skills to support people at emotional and pivotal times in their lives – much as I do as a therapist. It’s a truly inspiring service to provide and every time people choose to make me part of their ceremony is a fantastic privilege. I very much enjoy getting to know you, understanding how you would like the ceremony to be and making it happen; it’s immensely rewarding.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my partner, family, friends and cat. My garden and allotment (properly middle aged now!) make me happy. I love finding vintage and vintage inspired jewellery and clothes online. I’m an avid reader – which really helps when it comes to finding quotes and readings which may mean something special to you – and am currently planning a road trip along Route 101, along the West Coast of the USA (en route to a wedding!)
I am NOCN Stage 3 trained in celebrancy for weddings, namings and funerals, and am working towards my qualification in Stage 4 Baby and Children funerals, the highest national qualifications available in the UK for celebrancy. This involved practical assessment, such as writing and conducting a range of ceremonies, classroom study and written assessments. I trained with a well respected training provider and successful professional celebrant.
I am a member of the Association of Independent Celebrants, and through them am public liability and indemnity insured.
I have a BSc (Hons) degree in Occupational Therapy, a BA (Hons) in Psychology, English and Music and an MA in Creative Writing, as well as numerous professional therapy related qualifications.
